Spring is officially here!
March 19 marked the first day of spring. After what felt like a long winter in Simcoe County, we welcome the arrival of spring.
During this time, many of us are practicing social distancing during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people are off work, working from home or trying to keep themselves busy during this time.
From people hanging up their Christmas lights to window decorating, people are doing what they can to keep themselves entertained and high-spirited.
Self-isolation and physical distancing can cause us to feel a little stir crazy. Being indoors for an extended period of time can be boring, but we’ve organized some tips for how to brighten your space while you’re at home.
As it is spring, let’s take a look at some tips to brighten your space.
Rearrange Your Furniture
When you’re feeling stuck at home, it’s easy to grow weary of the same layout of furniture. Changing up the look of the space will give your room a fresh look. There are a few things you can do, in terms of laying out your furniture, to brighten your space.
Use mirrors to your advantage to strategically place them by a light source. For example, placing a wall or a floor mirror near a window can really amplify natural lighting.
Once life begins to go back to normal, other decorative changes can be implemented, such as a fresh coat of paint, adding plants and using curtains that have lighter coloured fabrics to maximize the amount of light.
Clean Your Windows And Your Home
Spring time is prime time to get some cleaning done around the house. Clearing clutter or giving your space a good clean will improve your mood.
Over the winter, dust and dirt can build up on your windows. Now that the weather is warmer, giving your windows a good clean will make your space appear so much brighter. It is recommended that windows should be cleaned at least once a year.
If you have windows that are appearing damaged or worn, consider replacing your windows.
Let There Be Light
During the winter, there is a lot less sunlight and the days are shorter. As human beings, sunlight keeps our spirits high and a lack of it can cause Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Now that it is officially spring, daylight hours will be longer. If you’ve been feeling down lately, a brighter space will brighten your mood. Open up the blinds and the curtains and let that natural light flow in.
Decorate Your Windows
A recent trend across the country is to decorate your windows so that neighbours or people driving by are able to see them. Rainbows, hearts and supportive messages decorate windows as a means of showing support during a difficult time.
With spring and Easter on the way, decorating your windows is a fun thing for you to do and a fun past time to keep your kids busy.
After months of having our windows closed during the winter, now is the time to open the windows up once again.
Decorating your windows can be as easy or extensive as you wish. Using some pencil crayons, markers and construction paper, you can create and cut out shapes to decorate your windows.
If you’re on the crafty side, Pinterest always has great ideas for decorating your windows.
