Springtime Cleaning: How to Clean Your Front Door

It’s finally starting to feel like springtime! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and the birds are chirping. It’s also time to start thinking about spring cleaning. One of the most important things to clean is your front door. Your front door is exposed to the elements and can get dirty very easily. In this article, we will give you a step-by-step guide on how to clean your front door and the benefits you get from keeping it clean!

Steps For Cleaning Your Front Door

Step One: Inspect Your Door

Before you begin cleaning, inspect your door to see if any issues need fixing first. You want to make sure the frame is not warped or damaged by water and that all of the hardware (locksets, knocker, etc.) works properly before moving on with cleaning it up.

Depending on how the inspection goes, if your door isn’t repairable, then it might be time to replace your front door with a new one. The reason for this is if your door is warped or damaged, then it won’t be energy efficient, which means you are losing money. By replacing your front door with one that is energy efficient, you will notice the savings in your energy bill.

Step Two: Remove Loose Dirt

To prepare your door for a good cleaning, remove any loose dirt or debris that is on or around it. Using a vacuum cleaner can help remove loose dirt from your front door without scratching, then remove debris such as leaves and sticks stuck with your hands or tongs if they are in hard-to-reach places.

Step Three: Choose a Good Cleaner

There are many different types of cleaners on the market, but not all of them are suitable for cleaning your front door. A general rule of thumb is to use a non-abrasive cleaner that will not damage the surface of your door. We recommend using something homemade like one part vinegar and four parts water.

Step Four: Clean Glass

If your front door has a window, you will want to clean it as well. Use a glass cleaner and a soft cloth to wipe down the entire surface of the window. Pay special attention to the corners and edges where dirt and dust can accumulate.

Step Five: Wipe Door With Cloth

Dip a soft cloth in your chosen cleaner and wipe down your front door. Be sure to pay special attention to any areas that seem dirty or stained. Allow the door to dry completely before moving on to step six.

Step Six: Polish Door

After cleaning the door, it’s time to polish it! This will give it a nice sheen and protect it from weathering over time. Rub the polish into the door in circular motions until it is completely absorbed.

Step Seven: Interior Side of Door

Last but not least, clean the interior side of your front door. Repeat the previous steps to clean the interior side of the door.

Benefits For Cleaning Your Front Door

When it comes to maintaining and cleaning your door, there are two major benefits. One of the most significant benefits of keeping your front door clean is that it will last longer. The dirt and dust can wear down the paint and make the door more susceptible to rusting or rotting. By cleaning it regularly, you can help extend its life by years.

Another benefit of keeping your front door clean is that it will improve your curb appeal. A dirty front door can really take away from the appearance of your home. But a clean, sparkling front door can make your house stand out! It’s a great way to welcome guests into your home.
