How to Prepare your Windows for Winters?

Windows are the faces as well as the back of the house. In a nutshell, these are the glory of a beautiful house. So before the harsh winter starts showing its true colours, be ready with a weapon. Here are a few things that you should take care of which will help you prepare your windows for winter.

Weatherstripping

Gaps and holes in windows should be checked to avoid allowing freezing winds to sneak in and prevent heat loss in the house. It is important to check your windows to ensure that they are completely sealed.

Condensation

You must have observed perspiring droplets on the window sometimes. This occurs due to condensation when warm air comes in contact with a cold surface. The solution to this is to open the window for some time to ventilation the warm moist air from the house and try to ensure that there is no accumulation of moist air inside the house.

Storm Windows

Storm windows are specially designed to fight the chilly, stormy winds. They keep the warmth of the house inside. So before the winters arrive be prepared to fight these winds by installing good quality storm windows to prevent your house from freezing in the harsh cold outside.

Additional Insulation

A single window pane would not be enough to serve the purpose. It is therefore recommended to use plastic sheets in between thick window panes. They trap the heat inside and serve as a blanket from the harsh cold outside. They act as insulators as plastic is a bad conductor of heat. This will also prevent condensation. Hence two purposes are served with a thick additional insulating layer in the window.

Decaying Wood

The decaying wood in the window panes may cause physical damage to the window. This is what nobody wishes for before the harsh winter sets in. Thus, one needs to keep an eye on the broken or decaying window so that any discrepancy can be mended as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience during winters. A damaged windowpane will let in the deadly cold winds from the windows into the house, which is the last thing anybody would like to even think of.
